Initial Idea.

Educational photographs.

Jamie, Marie and I decided to do a narrative photograph based around education. We will all take our SLR cameras and individually represent how we see education and how it is represented to us. The plan in our group is to base all our individual photographs around the theme of frustration and routine within education. All of our images will be separate but have an obvious link.

First of all i decided to go out and take some practise shots using a Cannon 1100 DSLR. I did this so i could plan how i was going to go about doing the project. I liked a few of the practise shots but they were in portrait form. When taking a portrait photograph using a SLR it doesn't always look great so when taking my actual photos i decided to take the majority of them using landscapes and a couple using portrait so i can choose my favourites to use in my final work.

Practising the photographs also helped me understand the importance of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Zoom Burst Photographs.

These 'zoom burst' photographs were achieved by changing the aperture on my canon 450dlsr to 2 seconds. In this 2 seconds i would then zoom in or out depending on the effect i was trying to get. At first i did find it challenging finding the right aperture time against the bright light that i had. After a few shots i started to create the effect i wanted. One problem i faced was getting the format of the photo correct so that i could open it on my windows 7 computer. To overcome this i used my sisters apple mac to convert it from CR2 format to jpeg. This effect could have also been created by editing photos together however i wanted to do it just by using the camera i had and didn't edit these photos at all. These photo's were taken in and around my house.

Conflict photography

When given the task to take an photograph that represented conflict at first i didn't have a clue as to how to go about it. After a while i then thought of how the conflict between light and dark is a strong subject that everyone can identify with. Also the object i chose to photograph was of a girls money bank, i believe that this helped to show conflict. It shows how in society that we show i big divide between male and female when we aren't at all different. For example not all boys will like blue and not all girls will like pink, we're all human. It's very stereotypical and i wanted to represent this in my photograph.

Photography on Prezi

Together Sam, Stephen and I decided to do our project on how the lighting in an image can change a photo. We decided to show the difference between natural and artificial light. We needed to add a subject to the photo so we chose something natural like an apple and artifical object like a toy but then at the end decided to use water as it is a good reflector for light and we can represent it in different ways. The content of the photograph would be the light, background, object and everything inbetween. For my photo in particular i used a water bottle with the light coming through it and reflecting in different ways, this was effective as it made the bottle almost glow. The background was grass which made the water bottle stand out but also made it natural. The form of the object is transparent flimsy bottle but when filled with water it becomes a stronger builded object that cannot be broke down. The bottle is artifical however the water inside is natural which builds a contrast inbetween the two. Also when doing the boys photo's we had to try multiple times to get the effect we wanted in the end. Sam, Stephen and I worked well together as we can motivate each other and give each other advice. I feel the project went well with a few minors such as people in backgrounds and finding the exact space we wanted within the time limit we had. After completeing our photos and uploading them onto a presentation we went round to ask some of our audience's oppinions. They said they didnt really understand them untill after we told them the context. They then said before we told them more about it they liked Sam's best as it had an interesting texture, after the context was explained they started to change their minds. If we had more time we would have liked to get a few more opinions on how to improve them to appeal to the auidence more but i feel we did well with what was given to us.
